Charlie Lee

@SatoshiLite

Charlie Lee was born in the West African nation, Ivory Coast. Charlie's family moved from Ivory Caost to the United States when he was 13 years old. Charlie attended Lawrenceville High School from which he graduated in 1995. Like his father, Charlie attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, studying computer science. He graduated from MIT in the year 2000, with a masters in computer science. Charlie worked for a number of notable tech companies, including Guidewire Software and Google, for years after he graduated MIT. During Lee's time at Google, now Alphabet, he created Litecoin. Charlie first came across Bitcoin in 2011, after reading an article on Silk Road, while he was still at Google. Charlie became interested in Bitcoin and the blockchain technology that was behind it. He began by getting into Bitcoin mining and proceeded to buy his first bitcoin from Mike Hearn, one of the core developers. With Lee's background in technology and computer science, he wanted to create his own cryptocurrency, much like bitcoin. Charlie's first attempt at creating a cryptocurrency, Fairbix, launched in September 2011 and failed. Charlie then released Litecoin (LTC) to the world, less than a month after the Fairbix fail. For Litecoin, Charlie used the core Bitcoin source code and made adjustments to fix some of Bitcoin's problems, such as reducing transaction times by 75%. Charlie saw Litecoin best suited for smaller, lightweight transactions and complementary, rather than competing with Bitcoin. Lee left Google for a position at Coinbase almost 2 years after creating Litecoin. He worked at Coinbase for 4 years as Engineering Manager and also Director of Engineering. Lee left Coinbase to work on Litecoin full time in 2017. He currently oversees the development of Litecoin as the Managing Director of the Litecoin Foundation.
